Event Photographer In London: What Good Coverage Looks Like

Event Photographer In London: What Good Coverage Looks Like

Event photography is the most misunderstood job in the business. It looks like turning up and pointing a camera at people having a nice time. It is actually a planning job with a camera attached, and the difference between a set the client uses for a year and a folder nobody opens comes down to what happened before the doors.

A long table in a glasshouse

For Stella Artois at Wimbledon the brief was a hosting in a working glasshouse: a table the length of the room, the strawberry serve built in the vines it came from, and guests through a full afternoon. The stills had to work as product shots, as press images and as social content, and each of those wants a different picture. So the shot list did the thinking: the serve in the vines before anyone arrived, the table laid and then full, the detail plates, the guests, the room at dusk. Two hundred frames delivered, and the client could pull a press set, a socials set and a product set from the same afternoon.

What a good event photographer in London actually does

  • Shoots to a list, then shoots what happens. The list guarantees the pictures the brand needs. The instinct catches the ones nobody planned.
  • Knows the room before the guests do. Where the light is at seven, where the speeches happen, where the logo needs to be in frame. That is a walk-round, not luck.
  • Delivers selects the same day. For events, the first set should be in your inbox before the last guest leaves, so the channels are running that night. The full graded set follows within the week.
  • Grades to match the film. If there is a film crew as well, the stills should look like they came from the same job. When the same studio does both, they do.

Film and stills from one crew

This is the part most clients do not know they can ask for. On jobs like House of Rémy Martin and Bud Live the film and the photography came from the same crew on the same day. One brief, one call sheet, one invoice, and a set of stills that is colour-matched to the film rather than fighting it on the same Instagram grid. It is also simply an easier day for the client: one team to brief, one team to point at the VIP.

Corporate, launch, conference, hospitality

The principles do not change with the room. A conference wants the stage, the audience reaction and the networking, in that order of difficulty. A launch wants the product in the hands of the right people. A hospitality event wants the atmosphere, and the atmosphere is mostly light. We shoot all of them, in London most weeks, and the photography page covers how the day is planned.

If you have an event coming up, send us the date and the venue. The earlier we see the room, the better the pictures.
